POWER BI INTERVIEW QUESTIONS PART-1

Interview Questions

1.What is Power BI?

  • By connecting, transforming, and visualising raw data sets from multiple sources, Power BI is a collection of Business Intelligence tools, techniques, and processes that are used to extract valuable information from raw business data.
It gives users and stakeholders the tools they need to create interactive dashboards and live reports that can be shared and published on a variety of platforms, allowing them to make better decisions. Planners and decision-makers can track their market performance using competitive and highly categorised data.

2.Why use Power BI?

  • Power BI allows you to connect, transform, and visualise raw business data from a variety of sources with ease. Non-technical users can extract useful information from their business data and use it to make more informed decisions. It offers a secure cloud service that allows users to view dashboards and reports in real time and share them with other business users and stakeholders.
Power Query and Power Q&A are two AI features available in Power BI. You can create dashboards with Power Query by simply typing in the columns and visuals you want to include. Power Q&A, on the other hand, allows you to analyse your data using voice commands.

3.Is Power BI free to use?

  • Users can, however, use Power BI for free. The Power BI Pro subscription account, on the other hand, gives you access to the best of Power BI. The Microsoft Store is where you can get it. The subscription account essentially provides an enhanced version of several features available in the free Power BI account. Most business users opt for a paid account because it provides more data refreshes per day and other benefits than the free version.

4.What are the major components of Power BI?

  • • Power Pivot: Retrieves and cleans data before transferring it to Power Query.
    • Power Q&A: Allows users to interact with reports using simple English language
    • Power View: Allows users to create interactive charts, graphs, maps, and other visuals based on the loaded data
    • Power Map: Enables accurate geographic location processing in datasets.

5.How is Power BI different from other BI tools?

  • When compared to other BI tools like Tableau, Power BI offers more features and data manipulation tools. Without any coding or data analytics experience, a single user can connect to multiple data sources. Power BI is tightly integrated with other Microsoft tools such as Office 365, SharePoint, and Bing as a Microsoft product.
Power BI Desktop’s free version allows users to analyse datasets with up to 1GB of storage and 10,000 rows of data streaming every hour. Furthermore, it includes features such as Power Query, which allows users to quickly visualise datasets by issuing commands in natural English.

6.Where is data stored in Power BI?

  • Data is basically stored in Fact and Dimension tables when it is ingested into Power BI.
    • Fact tables: The central table in a data warehouse’s star schema, a fact table stores quantitative data for analysis and is usually not normalised .
    • Dimension tables: A dimension table is a table in the star schema that stores attributes and dimensions that describe the objects in a fact table.

7.What are the building blocks of Power BI?

  • The following are the components of Power BI:
    • Visualizations: These are representations of raw data gathered from various data sources in a visual format. Line graphs, donut charts, pie charts, bar graphs, maps, and other visualisations are examples.
    • Datasets: Power BI uses a collection of data to create visualisations and reports. Excel sheets, CSV files, Oracle tables, and other types of data can be used as datasets in Power BI.
    • Reports: In Power BI, a report is a collection of visualisations arranged on one or more pages. In a report, each visualisation depicts a specific aspect of the data based on the requirements. Profit by-products, for example, or sales.

8.What are the essential applications of Power BI?

  • • Project Management Office: Project managers use Power BI to assess the current state of various business units. It allows them to see the team’s overall performance as well as the status of various projects.
    • Business and Data Analysts: Business Analysts use Power BI to quickly and efficiently analyse raw business data. They clean and transform data to meet specific requirements, then create live reports to express the raw data in the form of visual insights.
    • Database Administrators: The database administrator can increase the Power BI embedded capacity and assign roles to different team members by using PowerShell or Microsoft 365.

9.What are content packs?

  • Reports, dashboards, and datasets are packaged into content packs that can be shared with other Power BI users in the organisation. Report items are merged into workspace lists when a content pack is connected on the Powerbi.com portal.
The following are the most notable features of content packs:
•Allow specific groups or entire organisations access.
•A title and description can be added to help users choose the right pack.
•Users with access to the content pack can use the contents to create new dashboards.

10.Advantages of using Power BI?

  • •ETL/Data Recovery Suite: Power BI includes a comprehensive set of tools for implementing ETL (extract, transform, and load) capabilities. Before moving on to the visualisation section, data preparation and transformation are critical. Power BI allows users to create reporting datamarts directly and remove any ambiguities from datasets.
•Custom Visualization: Power BI allows you to create custom visualisations and incorporate them into your dashboards and live reports. Custom reports assist planners and decision-makers in identifying issues and making the best decisions possible to improve their market performance.
•Power BI has the ability to do e-mail-based Q&A.

11.How can we filter data in Power BI?

  • •Drill through filters: Power BI Desktop users can create a page in their reports that focuses on specific entities such as suppliers, customers, or manufacturers using drill through filters.
•Filters at the page level: These are used to filter charts on individual pages.
•Report-level filters: These are used to filter charts that appear on all pages of a report at the same time.

12.What is Power BI Desktop?

  • Power BI Desktop is a Windows desktop-based application for personal computers that is used to create, generate, and publish cloud-based reports. Power BI Desktop is an on-premise version of Power BI that can run on PCs and perform full functionality even when the system is not connected to the Internet. Users must connect to the Internet only when they want to publish their reports to the cloud or share them with colleagues. When a user first logs into Power BI, the first application they see is Power BI Desktop.
